The Blue Vase Keeps a Secret. A single rounded cobalt-blue vase rests slightly left of center upon a narrow shadowed table. From its small dark opening, fragile branches wander freely across a luminous pale background, carrying loose violet blossoms, lavender petals, and a few tiny amber-gold centers. Some flowers are fully gathered in translucent layers, while others are only suggestions of pigment, water, and untouched paper. The vase is the deepest note in the painting, formed from saturated indigo bleeding softly into ultramarine and smoky blue. Fine wavering stems travel through the composition like handwritten thoughts. Several blossoms release long delicate drips toward the tabletop, while a few isolated petals hover in the surrounding emptiness. The still life feels less arranged than remembered.
