Tardigrades have potato-shaped bodies that are typically about 1 mm (0.04 inch) or less in size. They sport eight legs, which give them a somewhat badger-caterpillar hybrid appearance. Their legs are stumpy and terminate in several sharp claws. When they move, they seem to be made of jelly, exhibiting a somewhat clumsy walk12. Body Structure: Tardigrades have a well-developed head region and a short body composed of four fused segments. Each segment bears a pair of unjointed limbs. Interestingly, they lack specialized organs for circulation or respiration. Their body cavity (hemocoel) is filled with fluid that transports blood and oxygen. The alimentary canal runs from end to end, allowing them to feed on plant cells using their stylets (spear-like structures near the mouth).
