A cinematic humorous scene inside a 1960s British MI6 laboratory. Sean Connery as James Bond, wearing an elegant dark suit, stands beside the young Major Boothroyd, Q, portrayed by Desmond Llewelyn, wearing a conservative 1960s British three-piece grey suit, white shirt and understated tie. Q is calmly presenting Bond with a modern smartphone, holding it out like an extraordinary new piece of MI6 equipment. Bond examines it with skeptical curiosity. The phone is simple and clearly recognizable as a modern smartphone. Its locked screen shows a small glamorous portrait of a beautiful 1960s woman, with the time subtly displayed as “0:07”. The laboratory is filled with authentic-looking 1960s scientific equipment, strange experimental gadgets, cables, instruments and prototypes. In the background, a white-coated laboratory technician is accidentally testing a rocket pack intended for Bond. The rocket has ignited violently, sending smoke and flames downward as the terrified technician is already lifting off the floor, his face showing genuine panic. Bond and Q completely ignore the disaster behind them. To them, this is simply another ordinary working day at Q Branch. Elegant 1960s British spy-film atmosphere, dry understated humor, cinematic composition, realistic characters, detailed laboratory, subtle absurdity.
- What is this, Q?
- It's a smartphone, 007.
- Smart? What precisely makes a telephone smart? Never mind... what does it do? Does it fire cyanide darts?
- Good heavens, no. For example, you can take quite amazing selfies with it while lounging on the beaches of Nassau.
- I see... You know, on second thought, I'd rather have my Beretta back.
- Do pay attention, Bond! The touch screen is extremely delicate. And kindly ignore Jenkins in the background. We are still calibrating the vertical thrust.
