The cat learned to go to the chimney to bask, but then she was dirty from soot and stained the furniture. So they put a footbridge between the roof and the chimney so that she wouldn't get dirty. The roof can be slightly open all summer, it only closes in case of a storm. But if it is open, the cat goes to the roof through it.
