The Court of Unspoken Things. Three mysterious young adult women stand close together inside an impossible twilight garden, as solemn and exquisite as queens who have forgotten what kingdom they once ruled. Their porcelain-pale faces are softly luminous, with enormous expressive gray eyes fully open, delicate rosebud lips, faint blush, and beautifully stylized doll-like features. One has a glossy black bob held by a narrow dusty-pink ribbon, another has short powder-rose hair and wears a high-necked black Victorian dress, the third has long jet-black hair with blunt bangs and an intricate black floral headpiece. A large black bird occupies the foreground like a silent royal messenger, while a pale dove rests near the woman in black. None of the women speak. Their expressions suggest that something important has already happened, and they have agreed never to explain it. Surround them with an overflowing nocturnal garden of oversized dusty-pink cosmos, antique roses, pale cream blossoms, tiny dark berries, dried seed heads, fragile branches and slender botanical stems. A muted ivory moon glows behind them through soft gray-green haze. Fine sparks of old gold drift through the foliage like forgotten promises. Surreal gothic fairytale portraiture, exquisite porcelain-doll stylization, elongated elegant figures, subtle Art Nouveau botanical ornament, delicately rendered birds, fine graphite and ink-like contours beneath translucent gouache and matte acrylic glazes, velvety blacks, charcoal gray, weathered sage, faded blush pink, antique ivory and restrained gold. Intricate yet quiet, haunting rather than frightening, romantic melancholy, old illustrated storybook atmosphere, gently distressed painted-paper texture, dreamlike symmetry softened by organic flowers. Drama Queen is where melancholy puts on its most beautiful dress, looks into the mirror, and finally laughs at itself.
