More about Gojira Awakens

The Story:
Down beneath seven miles of crushing black water, there was no sound. There was only the weight of the sea resting against ancient granite plates, a silent communion of stone and ocean that had remained undisturbed for ten thousand years. In that abyssal trench, Gojira slept. His vast skin, thick and ridged like molten basalt cooled by millennia, had long since merged with the seabed. Silt settled into the deep grooves along his spine. Barnacles and glass sponges bloomed across his flanks like miniature mountain ranges. He did not dream, for dreaming belonged to the restless creatures of light and air. Here, deep within the mantle of the world, he was simply at zero. A sleeping mountain anchored to the cold iron heart of the earth.
The ocean floor held him in an embrace of absolute, unyielding stillness. The pulse of his heart was slow, a single heavy thud every hundred tides, echoing through the bedrock like a distant tectonic shift. He was the sea’s dark guardian, but more than that, he was its quiet memory. In the deep, there was no anger, no territory, no self. There was only nonresistance, an absolute surrender to the darkness.
Then came the rupture.
It did not begin as sound. Sound was too gentle a word for the unnatural agony that tore through the trench. It was a jagged spike of light and unnatural thermal fire, a sudden, violent tearing of the ocean’s veil. Miles above, human fire had split the atmosphere, sending shockwaves of sharp, unnatural pressure down into the abyss. The water itself screamed as invisible lightning ripped through the darkness, shattering the stillness.
The silt drifted away in violent currents. The ancient granite beneath him cracked. The fire reached down, touching his dormant flesh with a burning poison. An artificial sun forced into a realm that had only ever known the quiet cold.
A single, colossal tremor shuddered through Gojira’s frame. The eyes beneath thick, armor plated lids opened. They did not open with wrath; they opened with the staggering, disorienting horror of a long-dead god forced back into mortal agony. The calm dissolved. The zero was broken.
Pain rushed into every cell like liquid lead. His lungs, dormant for centuries, flared with the phantom memory of burning air. His blood, cold and heavy as mercury, began to boil under the sudden surge of internal fire. He did not want to move. He flexed his massive talons against the bedrock, trying to anchor himself, trying to pull the comforting darkness back over his head. He willed the stone to hold him. He willed the ocean to press him back down into peaceful sleep.
