It seemed to come out of nowhere
with a force that was terrible,
The ship began to toss, yet
at the moment, all bearable,
The men rose to the top deck,
all hands working
to help keep things
from going asunder,
No time to worry if
the ship would go under;
They battened the hatches,
shortened the sails,
followed the captain's
orders for the best course
to face or ride out the gale,
yet, still
hope was held
within each man's heart
that all would be good,
things would not fall apart,
that a tale could be told
in the end under a good cup of ale—
Aye, about the time they sailed
out safely from a raging gale.
