Edward Teach, "Blackbeard," is not a romantic hero, but a cruel killer and robber. Behind the mask of ostentatious ferocity hid a greedy, unprincipled cutthroat, whose reputation, created by fear, served only as a cover for robbery and violence. He was not a brave captain, but a cold-blooded psychopath, leaving behind him only blood and tears. One should not see in him anything other than a shameful stain on the pages of history. Blackbeard was killed on November 22, 1718, during a fierce battle with Lieutenant Robert Maynard. Maynard tracked Teach and his crew near Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. During the battle, Teach sustained multiple gunshot and stab wounds before finally succumbing. His severed head was hung on the bowsprit of Maynard's ship as proof of his death.
