A figure stepped through, from one world to another, its long shadow stretching from golden field to dark stone. The figure looked over the stone passageway: It was clean (as passages go) and neat, with interlocking floor stones and finely etched letters along the walls. The figure pressed a hand against the wall beside him and his flesh pushed into the spaces of the letters. Words illuminated a soft blue hue. Voices whispered to him: Fables. Myths. History. “Too recent,” he said, and looked down the length of the corridor, where walls dotted with orange torches eventually vanished out of sight.
