Painted on a thin sheet of tin, nailed slightly crooked, the scene opens like a confession made after midnight. At the top edge float the four heads of The Beatles, haloed in jukebox gold, their mouths parted as if mid-chorus. From the grooves of a spinning record drip tiny red ribbons of sound—lyrics turned into arrows—aimed downward toward a listening prophet who mistakes echo for command: Charles Manson, kneeling beside a radio that glows like a shrine. He hears destiny in static. He calls it revelation.

Across the middle runs the title like a warning banner—Helter Skelter—painted in carnival lettering that curls into snakes. The letters unravel into a prophecy he believes he’s been handed whole, though it arrives broken, misheard, and hungry.

Below, the country fair tilts into absurdity. A Ferris wheel creaks under moonlight. Riding its slow circle are figures in white sheets, the Ku Klux Klan, their pointed hoods bobbing like dunce caps. They wave flags that say Order but mean Fear. The wheel turns anyway, indifferent.

From the ground surge crowds—mixed, laughing, stubbornly alive—calling themselves a messy, mixed-race, communist-leaning democracy because they refuse simpler names. They lob water balloons in every color: cobalt, saffron, algae green, bruise purple. The balloons burst mid-air with soft thunder, soaking the sheets, dissolving the menace into slapstick. White turns translucent; hate loses its costume.

At the bottom corner, a small painted hand signs the ex-voto thanks: For the miracle of misheard songs becoming jokes, and jokes becoming justice. The fair keeps spinning. The radio crackles. Meaning slips free. And the prophecy—denied its gravity—floats away like paper confetti, harmless at last.
