A spectacular explosion of thousands of brightly colored wax crayons fills the sky above an old European courtyard, forming an enormous radiant canopy with a tiny wicker basket suspended beneath it. Crayons rain down upon a dense, dramatic crowd in vintage clothing. The crowd reacts with alarm, bewilderment, skepticism, and wonder. People duck, shield their heads, clutch companions, or stare upward in disbelief; only a few celebrate. Expressive individual faces and theatrical poses. On the right, several people have already begun coloring their world. A woman draws enormous flowers and fantastical birds across the stone wall, a kneeling man draws a winding blue river over the cobblestones, and another person colors a companion’s coat. They are calmly absorbed in creating, while the crowd around them remains uncertain. The left and center retain the intricate black-and-white crosshatching of an antique engraving. On the right, brilliant color spreads organically through the drawings, clothing, walls, and pavement.
