They say monsters don’t cry. That’s a lie sold by kings who build palaces from somebody else’s shame.

The Minotaur rented himself a black tuxedo and wandered the waterfront where lovers leaned together like matches sharing the same flame. Every streetlamp hummed an old accordion tune. The sea smelled of rust, salt, and promises that had missed their train years ago.

He watched two young hearts kiss beneath the stars as if the whole sky had decided to become one slow-burning cigarette. Nobody noticed the bull in the corner except the moon, and she’d already seen everything worth forgiving.

His tears were heavy things. They didn’t sparkle. They fell like loose bolts from an old freight car, striking the cobblestones with a sound only stray dogs and broken saints could hear.

He wasn’t crying because he had horns.

He was crying because somewhere along the road everyone forgot there’d once been a frightened child inside the legend.

Cities are good at polishing statues and terrible at polishing sorrow. They build stairways to cathedrals but leave the labyrinth underneath exactly where they found it.

The Minotaur climbed those stone steps anyway. Every step was another year carried on his back. Every doorway asked him to become less beast than memory.

Above him the stars looked like pinholes punched through Heaven by a bartender trying to close shop after eternity’s last call.

Down below, the lovers were still dancing without music.

He smiled.

Not because the ache had left him.

Because love had chosen the world again.

And maybe that’s the closest thing to redemption a creature like him ever gets—not escaping the maze, not becoming a prince, not growing smaller horns—but standing in the cold night while someone else’s happiness lights the darkness for a moment.

The tears kept falling.

The sea accepted every one without asking whose they were.

That’s the oldest trick water knows.

It never judges what the rivers bring.
