The story tells that a man invented the time machine and lost track of where he was and how many times he had used it. The use of the machine also provided him with a static image of his physical appearance, for him, the passing of the years was not noticeable. On one of his "trips" he fell in love with a woman, who was unknowingly a lover in another reality.
