The waving cat or maneki-neko (Japanese: 招き猫) is a commonly found figurine in Japan. It is usually made of ceramic and is believed to bring good luck to its owner. It is believed that the higher you raise your paw, the better your luck will be. The base color white symbolizes purity and positive things and attracts luck.
A story about the origin: The Old Lady's Cat: An old lady who lived in Imado, East Tokyo, was forced to sell her cat, she was so poor. Not long after that, a cat appeared in his dream. The cat told him to make his image out of clay. He acted on what he was told and soon sold the statue. Then he made more and more of it, which people bought. These maneki-nekos were so popular that he soon became very successful and rich.
I dedicate this picture to a very nice Dutch lady, and may it bring luck to whoever looks at it with a good heart...
