Aquamation has been around since 1888. It was developed by a farmer named Amos Herbert Hanson to process animal carcasses into fertilizer. It was later used in labs to dispose of contaminated animal bodies.
Aquamation, also known as alkaline hydrolysis, is a water-based, sustainable method of final disposition. It is sometimes called water cremation or bio cremation (especially in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan). Aquamation has no direct emissions of harmful greenhouse gases or mercury and requires no burning of fossil fuels.
