"The Return of the Archons" is the 21st episode of the first season of the original Star Trek series, first aired on 9 February 1967. The crew of the USS Enterprise travels to the planet Beta III to investigate the disappearance of the USS Archon a century earlier. They find a vacantly peaceful, 19th-century-style society governed by an unseen ruler named Landru. The inhabitants refer to themselves as "of the Body" and are controlled by telepathic mind control that suppresses individuality.
