But the wolf was overcome with doubt: where could he, a forest dweller, keep such an important paper? You never know what could happen in the forest. “I’ll give it to the dog, after all, she lives in the village, near the house. It will be safer that way,” thought the wolf and gave the letter to the dog. Well, the dog didn’t keep the letter either. “What if something happens,” he thought, “I live in the yard, I’m away. I’ll give the letter to the cat, after all, she lives in the house, among people. It will be better, calmer that way.” And she gave the letter to the cat. The cat kept the letter, everything would be fine, but here's the problem: the naughty boys won't give her any peace or quiet. As soon as the cat goes outside, they start chasing her. One day, they were chasing the poor thing - she had nowhere to go, there was a fire burning in front of her, and she swung over it. Then the cat dropped the letter into the fire - she had been keeping the letter under her tail. Of course, the letter burned to ashes. And since then it has been the custom: the wolf chases the dog, demands the letter, and the dog chases the cat. The dog barks and growls: - Give me the letter! Give me the letter! And the cat ruffles her fur, bares her muzzle, turns around, hisses and purrs: - It's burnt! It's burnt!
