The Pacific Coast Highway was officially designated in its entirety in 1964, but it used to be part of Highway 60 and was originally called Roosevelt Highway after the death of President Theodore Roosevelt in 1919. In the 1960s, the PCH was already known for its stunning scenery and also for its traffic, which was a frequent source of frustration for drivers. However, despite the traffic, the PCH remained a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, with its beaches, cliffs, and coastal towns attracting visitors from all over the world.
