**Iberian Lynx (Lynx pardinus) - Spain/Portugal (Europe)
Status: Critically Endangered (formerly); improved due to rewilding (still vulnerable in parts).
Range/Countries: Spain & Portugal (Iberian Peninsula).
Habitat: Mediterranean scrub, shrublands, maquis and cork-oak landscapes.
Diet: Specialist predator of rabbits (main prey), also birds and rodents.
Lifespan: ~10-13 years (wild).
Reproduction: Single litters, 1-4 kittens; dependent on rabbit availability.
Ecological role: Controls rabbit populations; indicator of healthy scrub ecosystems.
Main threats: Decline of rabbit prey (disease, hunting), habitat fragmentation, road mortality, human conflict.
Conservation notes: Intensive captive-breeding and reintroduction programs have helped recover local populations - habitat connectivity and prey restoration remain key.
