When someone they care about or admire does something wrong, their brain feels mental discomfort (dissonance).
To reduce that discomfort, they justify or deny the wrongdoing rather than admit the person did something bad.
Example: “He’s a good person, he must have had a reason.”
Psychological Theme: Cognitive Dissonance — when a person’s belief about someone conflicts with that person’s bad actions, causing internal struggle.
