A UFO, hidden behind the black cloud, using a Klingon Cloaking Device, has been hovering all over the country dematerialising old British Rail trains. A spokesnormie for Beeching said "We're smashing them up as hardcore for the foundations of the new M1 motorway". Which is politician-speak for "We built too many diesels and none of them work -- we should have kept the old steam locos". Shortly afterwards, railway enthusiasts all over the country bidded for surviving stretches of line in order to start heritage railways.
