in the sixties, my dad used to rent a shop. It was full of old 405-line black-and-white tellies, 78RPM records, and random antique gobbledegook. My mum used to knit plushies and sell them at the local flea market. We used to listen to Radio Caroline and RNI. Or at least I used to. My dad used to listen to old 78's and LP's, mainly operetta and musicals, and my mum used to read cards and tell fortunes. Oh, we played a few board games, like Cluedo and Monopoly sometimes too. My mum also played the piano sometimes, and tried to sell her songs to people like Ken Dodd. She didn't like The Beatles, and claimed never to have intentionally listened to them. She was usually interesting to talk to, but often had bad moods. Both parents smoked a lot (cigarettes, not weed), and that contributed to their decease in the 1990's. Meanwhile I'd moved out in 1978 to a bedsit in South Norwood. The rent was only £96 a month but had gone up to £230 a month by 1996 when I moved to Croydon. Oh, and they had a gas fridge, lol (I think it used ammonia) and a gas stove but only electric heating. My dad used to turn up his home-made amplifier a lot and got several complaints from the pub next door, they said the bass rattled their glasses. Lol. At least it wasn't my mum doing a seance and summoning poltergeists :) Oh, and I had a load of junk in the attic. I remember that because there was tons of old plastic toys when I moved out. There was a big electrical recycling van which picked up all the old tellies -- one and a half tons -- which cost me about £2000 for the van hire when I retired to the Midlands. Now I've got a much smaller house, so I try not to hoard a load of junk (there's intentionally no room for it) and the town I'm in has all the facilities I need, several supermarkets, parks, hobby shops, a market, and a railway station (I don't "do" automobiles). Okay you can wake up now if it's bored you :) Lol :)
