More about Everyone has a Story, If Someone Listens

Everyone has a story for how they are where they are, sometimes it is a story of tragedy, heartbreak, bad choices, or various unfortunate events. Sometimes all someone needs is to have someone to listen to them, to make them feel heard. This man I met at lunch is Tim, he served his country, had a family, is disabled, and has been homeless for about 18 months. He lost his family to a tragic accident, lost his job, lost his home, still struggles to try to get his benefits, and has lost some hope. He has a big heart, is very kind, and still retains a sense of humor. It was a joy to hear him tell his story and I will look forward to it for lunch every Wednesday.

A little compassion can mean everything to someone carrying burdens we may never see. When we choose kindness toward those less fortunate, we remind each other that dignity, hope, and humanity belong to us all.
