A watercolor depicting Ake’nihsténha ("My Mother") and I standing in front of my childhood home on the reservation after a surprise visit home for Mother's Day! I am wearing a traditional Kanien'keha:ka ribbon skirt, moccasins, and jewelry that I used to wear. My Mum is also wearing a traditional Kanien'keha:ka ribbon skirt and jewelry that she made.
This beautiful and amazing woman raised me from birth in Inverness(Scotland) and then back on the reservation in the states, giving her girl everything she could have dreamed of in an upbringing that is beautifully rich in culture and tradition.
Thank you Mum! Konneroróhkhwa!!!! (“I love you”)
