A changing climate, seen from above, the stark progress of a forest fire moving across a landscape of rolling hills with a river in the background in the atmospheric etching style of Neil Rizos, hand painted fire colors
Here in the southern US we are dealing with a rare drought, and forest fires are being fought all around us. In the last few weeks we have gotten a bit of rain here and there, but the rain is accompanied by lightning strikes which is worrisome in dry forests, and yesterday's storms came with tornado warnings. Even so, the water table is quite low in the wetlands around us. Out west it is the same. When we visited the Great Salt Lake in Salt Lake City, Utah, we saw huge plumes of smoke rising in the distance from a controlled burn created to protect the area from wildfires taking hold.
