ArtistA sumptuous hall made of stone walls and a timber roof. A metal chandelier hangs from the roof, illuminating the hall. A sapphire blue tapestry with a coat of arms showing a traditional hammer and anvil symbol of smiths hangs on the back wall. To one side of the hall, three anthropomorphic dogs sit on benches at a long table wooden. The first dog is an anthropomorphic great dane. The anthropomorphic great dane wears traditional smith's working clothes. The second dog is a an anthropomorphic German spaniel which sits facing the anthropomorphic great dane. The anthropomorphic german spaniel has uniform glossy reddish-brown fur that shimmers in the light. The anthropomorphic german spaniel wears an elegant dark green dress and carries a brown leather bag on its right side with the strap of the bag draped over the spaniel's left shoulder. The third dog is an anthropomorphic transylvanian hound which sits next to the anthropomorphic German spaniel. The anthropomorphic transylvanian hound wears black robes and a black cloak with a high collar and prominently shows his long canines protruding past his lower lip. A large ledger bound in sapphire blue leather lies open on the table between the dogs.
Agatha Misty and Lord Dogula find the record keeper at the smith's guild's record hall. He is very concerned about the reputation of the guild, especially that of the prestigious members of the Snakelorian Sunsteel Simths Branch. If any of them have knowingly abused of the trust put in them, the Snakelorians might refuse to export more Sunsteel to Caninia and the craft would die out, robbing the country of all of the benefits of this unique material. The record keeper explains that only five smiths currently have a license to work with Snakelorian Sunsteel. One is the royal blacksmith who serves the court, two are employed by the army, and two are craftsmen who serve mostly high-end customers, making products that are not meant to break. These last two occasionally also make tools for particularly difficult, or precise work. But the record keeper stresses that he cannot imagine either one knowingly selling a tool to anyone who would seek to harm the country.
"Could one of them have been deceived or coerced into creating such a tool?" Agatha Misty wants to know.
"Possible," the record keeper replies, "but then they would have reported the fact."
"Unless they are still being threatend," Lord Dogula sais.
"Could someone have illegally created a Sunsteel tool?" Agatha Misty asks.
"Impossible," the record keeper objects, "working with Sunsteel takes years of practice and pacience and can only be learned from a trained master in the art. No one, not even an ordinary smith, no matter how accomplished in other areas of smithying, would be able to achieve such a thing."
"Then we must pay the licensed Sunsteel Smiths a visit and see what we can discover," Agatha Misty sais.
