A Pop Art illustration of the French poet Arthur Rimbaud near Harar, Ethiopia, based on my combination of two photographs of Rimbaud as an adult. The bright jungle vegetation references images in his poem 'Le Bâteau Ivre', and in a strange way he lived out the kind of voyage he described in the poem.
"Je sais les cieux crevant en éclairs, et les trombes
Et les ressacs et les courants : Je sais le soir,
L’aube exaltée ainsi qu’un peuple de colombes,
Et j’ai vu quelque fois ce que l’homme a cru voir ! "
