**Eugène Jansson (1862-1915)
#Sweden
Eugène Jansson’s nightscapes and bathers live in a blue hush where bodies and water answer each other in tone and mood. His male subjects are often partially submerged or framed by wet wooden architecture, and the repeated blue palette becomes a meditation -it is not merely color but atmosphere, an emotion that slows the viewer’s gaze.
Jansson’s compositions suggest privacy within the city: these are men in liminal spaces, suspended between performative masculinity and intimate ritual.
Painting in his manner is an exercise in restraint: a narrow tonal range, subtle reflection handling, and a will to make quiet feeling visible.
