More about Bird Mushroom Connection_(where there are fairies, there are birds!)

IN THE GARDEN, a incomplete poem begun by Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)
and, completed by me (hopefully to her liking and yours as well!)

This addition was inspired by my own experience with a little bird who hadn't noticed I was there as I had been sitting so still and quiet waiting for a photography moment with camera in hand. The bird flew down and began its activity within a mere foot and a half from me. It was all quite delightful. Thus our story within the poem begins with... satisfied then there was no danger...

A bird came down the walk
He didn't know I saw
him bite into an angle worm
and eat the fellow raw!

He drank then
from a dew drop
upon a blade of grass
and hopped quickly sideways
to let a beetle pass,
Then glancing all about
with rapid blinking eyes
that looked like
frightened beads to me
he searched the trees
and skies.

Satisfied then
there was no danger
he hopped forward and back
upon the ground
with a rustling sound
tossing leaves and dirt
quite fast.

Stopping momentarily
his head turned to the ground
he listened very intently
for the tiniest, faintest sound
of what might be below him
that he could possibly eat,
so thus he kept this rhythm up
of his hopping, scratching feet,
'til suddenly I felt it strongly
my moment to bestir
which sent him up
into a startled flight
right by my head
and shoulder.

He flew well beyond me
into a bright blue sunny sky.

I carried on then
and in my heart I said,
“Good Bye!”

BIRDS AND MUSHROOMS
MUSHROOMS AND BIRDS

WHAT’S THE CONNECTION?
WELL, WHEN THE POEM MENTIONS…

…tossing dirt and leaves…
---------------------------------
THIS REMINDS ME…
OF HOW…

mycelium
can often be found
under leaves and debris
that has been
left alone
for a good period
of time.

Mycelium
is an essential part
of the
planet's ecosystems.

It
breaks down organic matter.

In this process
it creates new
and fertile soil.

Without mycelium,
soil structure
would
break down,
leading to
erosion
and a
multitude
of other
problems.

fertile soils = worms
bugs, which attract frogs,
attracting also birds,
which in turn
attract foxes
and other wildlife, plus
OURSELVES
especially in regard to
farming and gardening,
bird-watching, hiking,
and more!
