O noble creature, graced with fur so fine,
A regal whiskered lord, with eyes like suns,
Thy purring doth mine heart's delight refine,
As if the Muses' own sweet music runs.
Upon the hearth dost thou thy throne command,
With tail a-swaying like a metronome,
In silent grace dost thou the hours withstand,
A master of the art of feline roam.
Oh, how thy lithe form leaps with such delight,
To chase the shadows of the moonlit night,
Or bask in warmth of day's soft golden light,
In contemplation of thy sovereign might.
What dreams dost thou, in slumber deep, behold?
Of mice and milk, or battles long ago fought?
Thy mysteries are many, manifold,
A living sonnet, by the gods begot.
So let us raise a toast to thee, dear cat,
For in thy silent watch, and gentle purr,
There lies a peace, a calm, where once was that,
Now all is well, for thou art here, for sure.
