Prompt: Who dismembered Purusha?
According to the Purusha Sukta, the sacrifice of Purusha was performed by the gods (devas), as well as sadhyas and rishis. They "tied Purusha up like a (sacrificial) animal" and sacrificed him.
How did the dismemberment take place and what emerged from it?
The hymn describes how the elements of the universe and society arose from various parts of Purusha's body.:
Purusha's mouth became the source of the brahmins (priests).
The two hands became kshatriyas (warriors and rulers).
Thighs (or stomach) They became vaishyas (merchants and farmers).
The feet became sudras (servants).
The mind created the moon.
The eyes gave birth to the Sun.
The gods Indra and Agni were born from the mouth.
The wind arose from the breath (or vital air).

Thus, the Purusha sukta not only asserts the fact of sacrifice, but also describes it in detail as a cosmogonic act, as a result of which all aspects of the universe and the social structure arose.
