A tall, radiant lady rises — the Snow Queen, crowned with snow and ice. Her cloak and cap appear woven from snow itself. Beside her shivers little Kai, cold and frightened. The Queen bends gracefully, lifts him and seats him by her side. She wraps and enfolds him in a vast white fox fur coat — soft, fluffy, yet cold as snow. The boy sinks into it as if into a snowy mountain, pressed close against her. She pulls him near, holding him in her arms with the fur, and places an icy kiss upon his forehead.
