ArtistA large green five-pointed star, with the caption "Esperanto -- La Lingvon Internacian"
Esperanto was created by Dr. Zamenhof in the late 1800's/ early 1900's as an international language, to attempt to simplify communication among the many european nations, each of whom had their own language. It has no irregular verbs, and tries to be "orthogonal" since each part-of-speech has its own postfix/suffix (which foreshadows "addressing modes" in computer machine codes such as PDP11 and 6502).
All nouns end in -O
All adjectives end in -A
All plurals end in -J
All accusatives end in -N
All present tense verbs end in -AS
All past tense verbs end in -IS
All future tense verbs end in -OS
These are additive, so for example LINGVOJN is made up of LINGV- (language), -O- (noun), -J- (plural), -N (accusative, i.e object of a verb), giving "languages".
Esperanto has inspired a number of spin-offs, such as the languages Ido (child) and Toki Pona (good talk). E&OE :)
