What you see here—the great cigar, the plume of breath, the stillness of the man—is not indulgence but discipline. In many South American traditions, tobacco is older than spectacle. Before the visions, before the stories of Ayahuasca reached the outside world, there was tobacco: quiet, exacting, and unforgiving.

Used with reverence, it is a plant of focus, boundary, and communication. It sharpens intention. It clears space. It is not inhaled in the way of habit, but engaged as a force—measured, ritualized, purposeful.

But outside of that container, tobacco becomes something else entirely.

Addiction.
Erosion.
A slow forgetting of breath.

The same leaf that can clarify will, without structure, consume it. The same smoke that carries prayer can also carry harm into the body, layer by layer, until the signal is lost and only the habit remains.

This card does not celebrate smoking—it distinguishes it.

Between ritual and compulsion.
Between intention and drift.
Between medicine and damage.

Know the difference.

And if you do not stand inside a lineage, a practice, a container of meaning—then it is not medicine for you.

It is simply fire, entering the lungs.
