A newly graduated young policeman approaches the sergeant, who is a senior officer, and asks, "Sir, do you know why we wear metal rank insignia on our epaulettes?" The sergeant glances at him and replies, "No, why is that?" The young officer responds, "It's so we can hear when it rains! But do you know why we have insignia on both shoulders?" The sergeant, clearly not amused, replies, "If you tell me, I’ll find out." The young man then explains, "It's so we can hear the rain in stereo!"
