The narrow beam shown here is allegedly the distinguishing feature of the alien mind-control technology, whereas the broad, diffused looking light seen on UFOs' undersides is reportedly used to teleport people and objects.

The mind-control beam is putting an abduction experience into the housewife's brain, which is absolutely indistinguishable from a real experience.

And yes, I know that this is more of an acutely oblate spheroid than a saucer.
