The Night of the Duel (Ichijō-ji Sōsō no Ketto)
After losing two masters, the Yoshioka clan plotted revenge. They:
1. Set a trap: Instead of a fair duel, they lured Musashi to Ichijō-ji temple at night, where dozens of armed men (some say 70+) ambushed him.
2. Used unconventional tactics: Some accounts claim they even had archers, musketeers, and hired shinobi** to ensure his death.
3. Musashi’s counter-strategy:
- Suspecting treachery, Musashi arrived early and hid in the shadows.
- When the Yoshioka forces gathered, he suddenly burst out, killing multiple opponents in rapid succession.
- He specifically targeted Yoshioka Matashichiro (the new young heir), cutting him down and causing the rest to flee.

Aftermath & Legacy
- The Yoshioka School **collapsed** after this massacre.
- Musashi’s victory became legendary, reinforcing his reputation as an "undefeated swordsman".
