A high-angle, long shot oil painting in the primitive style by LS Lowry depicts a chaotic robbery in a busy town square. In the center right, a blue armoured security van with "SECURITY SERVICES" and "ARMSUSED" (with a backwards 'S' in 'ARMSUSED') in red text on its side is being robbed by several dark-suited, silhouetted figures. One figure aims a black pistol at a security guard leaning out of the van's open driver's side door, while another guard lies on the cobblestone street. Two other robbers run away to the left with satchels and a suitcase, and another dark-suited figure is visible inside the security van.
Numerous thin, dark-suited stick figures with small heads and defined features are scattered throughout the scene, either walking around or running away from the holdup. Some small children are also visible. On the paved square directly in front of the robbery, a crowd of people in dark clothing and hats are walking towards the foreground, away from the scene. To the right of the van, an older model dark gray car with three indistinct figures inside is parked on the street. A fourth figure is running away towards the center right.
