In this colony settlement, much of the farming is done for the benefit of extended family lines, and some of the rest is done by a large labor syndicate where every laborer has a stake in everything. Small personally-owned farms and specialty farms make up the remaining tiny sliver. However, there are also seven different research establishments, doing research in agriculture and applied botanical sciences, and each of these has medium sized farms, used both for research and food production. Naturally, most of their research involves adaptation of Earth crops to the biospheres of the exoplanet.
