More about An Angelic Presence - The Gift

An altercation gone wrong

The sidewalk was a bruise of shadow and broken glass. I lay there, cracked ribs sweating under my shirt, breath shallow as a whisper. Above me, an Angel hovered, a small grin caught between pity and amusement, halo guttering like a streetlamp in rain.

Injured Man: Have you come for me?

Angel: Yes. I have a message for you.

Injured Man: I want to come home. I'm ready.

Angel: Right now you’re suspended between life and death. You’ll come back to us — but not today.

Injured Man: Disappointing. What’s the message?

Angel: You are worth more than you think. You’ve quietly shaped lives. But your work here isn’t done. People still need you.

Injured Man (confused): This must be a hallucination. I must have irreparable brain damage.

Angel: Everything will be okay. When you wake, you won’t remember this incident. That forgetting will be a gift. Whenever things turn black, you’ll pull through — optimism will become a beacon. It will ripple outward, inspiring thousands.

Injured Man: Okay, if you say so. But—

Angel: Goodbye. See you in 16 years...

The exchange folded away like a page torn loose. The world seized me back with a violent jolt: air slammed into my lungs, my ribs split the pain into syllables. I coughed, tasted metal, and, absurdly, smiled.

Hurt, every nerve a telegram of warning, but alive. I pushed myself up on one shaking arm. The city’s lights pooled ahead — bright, luring me in.

I didn’t know where the sudden optimism came from.

I only knew it was of pure heart and inexplicable.

I stood, head ringing, and walked toward the light as if toward a promise.

It's a new day full of possibilities.
