Oh fairly spread thy early sail, was the first impulse of the gale that urges life's wave. Did the beautiful 40 year old female pilot lookk askance over the ocean's foam. She guided her vessel home, through mists that gather dimly. What rocks and shelves and sands lay around. Moments of brightness, the Splendor of the main. An anxious gaze from the woman pilot, marked the whitening wave, it recks not now.
A dramatic, highly-detailed oil painting depicts a clipper ship caught in a stormy sea, with a young woman in white standing at the helm, as other ships are visible in the misty distance. The ship is shown from the starboard side, listing to port, with foamy waves crashing against its hull. The sky is overcast and grey, with rays of light cutting through the clouds. The foreground shows dark, rugged rocks being battered by the tumultuous waves. The ocean is a mix of dark greens and blues, with white crests and foam, conveying immense power and motion. The sails of the clipper are full and billowing, illuminated by the faint light. The woman at the helm is looking forward with a serious expression, her light brown hair styled up, wearing a flowing white dress with a red sash. The scene is one of struggle and resilience against the forces of nature, with a classical, romanticized feel.
