Well the other day "Cathy" (my 586ITOX test machine) got stuck while playing an old DOS game (Transport Tycoon original). On rebooting, it failed to recognise the antiquated 6 gigabyte HDD. Running Norton showed that it had corrupted the MFT (the main index file of the disk), and refused to boot anymore. After changing the power supply, the hard disk controller, and the VGA card, it still failed to work. It looks like the "Northbridge" (PCI-to-CPU) chip has failed. Inserting a Promise SATA card and modern hard disk, resulted in "PCI interrupt failed". As I'm not competent to unsolder surface-mount chips, this one is for the local E-Waste recycling. Never mind, Cathy, you've been powered up for most of the time between 1996 and 1999, testing various ActiveX protocols and Internet debit-card processing algorithms. Have a nice sleep :)
