At the suggestion of @flohendry, I added some prompt cues for golden hour lighting and diffused light rays. The scene improved immediately. With the addition of a lantern by the door, I feel like the piece has the level of quality I wanted.
I plan to take the current version of the prompt and apply it to the original image to see if I can evolve it to include the things I love about this image, while keeping some of the things that are missing from the original.
