Three decorated Dragonboats are racing on the lake, each boat has 20 rowers, one captain, one drummer beating the paddling rhythm, boat 3 is pulling away from the other two. The boats are elaborately decorated with dragon motifs, a dragon head at the bow and a dragon tail at the stern, both carved from solid wood and painted in bright, symbolic colors, mostly gold, red, and blue. The day is sunny, the water is calm except where the foam splashes up from the oars,
Three dragon boats with men rowing and one man hitting a drum are racing in formation on clear blue water, creating white splashes, with a crowd of people watching from a wooden pier on the left.
These boats are a little more elaborate than the ones I watched today on Lake Willastein in Arkansas, and the pavilions were not there (just covered booths), but my older son and his wife have been volunteering for the event for years and I finally went - it was a lot of fun to watch. My younger son lives in Singapore, and he is actually on a crew; their races don't start till October though. I suspect their boats and pavilions are more like this painting. :)
