More about The Pulse Beneath the World

Excerpted from the Terran Substructure Compendium, Vol. IV — “Silent Infrastructures.”

No city sings without a heart. Deep below the continental crust of Myrran IV, this pulse has endured for seven centuries—an ocean of turbines whose synchronized rotation maintains planetary equilibrium. Each core hums at precisely 180 Hz, a frequency once chosen for its aesthetic resonance rather than necessity. Engineers of that vanished era described it as “the note of continuity.”

Tourists are forbidden entry; only the Custodians walk the corridors now, robed in conductive mesh, listening to the faint vibration through their bones. It is said that when the turbines ever fall silent, the sky will lose its blue and memory itself will drain from the soil.

To stand above it, even unknowingly, is to feel the faintest tremor in one’s pulse—proof that the world is still awake.
