The Stonewall Riots occurred at a small gay bar beginning on June 28th of 1969 and went on for three nights. The first night of the riots was the same date that Judy Garland's funeral was held in NYC. This is the reason that Gay Pride events usually occur in June, to mark the occasion when a group of drag queens and gay boys stood up to the cops and fought back the same night a tragic gay Icon was laid to rest.
