ArtistAdelard of Bath, twelfth century traveller and scholar known as the First English Scientist. He wears a long green cloak, a blue silk shirt the colour of lapis lazuli, a cap striped with red and ermine, and a dazzling emerald gold ring. In tjis view he is visiting a scholarly library in Sicily, examining beautiful illuminated manuscripts. Mediaeval, twelfth century, portrayed in a mediaeval manuscript style, very fine art.
A richly detailed medieval illuminated manuscript Adelard of Bath engrossed in a large, open book, his finger pointing to an illustration of a woman within a circular frame. He wears a red and white striped cap, a green cloak, and engaged in reading or writing. He was recorded in mediaeval times as dressing this way. In this view he is in a scholarly library such as may have been in a monastery of that period.
