ArtistA mobile phone with a large padlock on it. Underneath is the caption "Industrial Misbehaviour".
Industrial misbehaviour didn't start with the locking of mobile phones and modems to a particular network provider. Indeed, there was the famous Sony Trojan planted on many music CD's (I personally was a victim of this, and caused me to permanently stop buying music CD's in 2008). It goes farther back, past IBM's deliberate microcode patches to their £1M mainframes to intentionally slow them down unless you paid an "upgrade fee"; way back even to Edison's war on Tesla's AC (Alternating Current) mains supply, Edison falsely claiming the AC was more dangerous than DC (direct current). Luckily we still have AC, for without it we would have no transformers and thus no National Grid distribution networks.
