Instead of the pieces that were supposed to be there, the boy placed his favourite toys on differ-ent squares. There was a bright yellow young cockerel with fluffy, lemon-coloured feathers in-stead of a tail and a round little man-box made of dark-blue rubbed velvet on the lid and brown on the base. The little man smiled cheerfully from under a dapperly shifted hat and held a silver trumpet made of thick cardboard and curved in a ring. The third was a grey-bearded Wizard in a tall snow-white hat with shining stars, wearing a long silk robe of dark blue colour, which was neatly embroidered with fine golden threads.
