A fairy tale that celebrates the beauty and song of the nightingale. The Emperor of China learns from a book that a nightingale with a particularly beautiful song exists in his kingdom. He had previously known nothing of its existence. He sets out to find it, locates it, and takes it to his palace. He is deeply fond of the nightingale's song. The Emperor receives an artificial nightingale from the Emperor of Japan, which is then preferred to the real nightingale, causing it to flee. The artificial bird eventually breaks. When the real nightingale returns and saves the Emperor from death, the Emperor is immensely grateful. The Emperor must promise the bird that he will not tell anyone about the little bird that tells him everything, for then the Emperor will be better. The bird means that it will tell him what it hears from the people during its travels. To everyone's surprise, the next morning the Emperor is completely healthy again.
